Dick Ekhammar – 40 Years of Craftsmanship at Berg Propulsion

When you walk through the Berg Propulsion workshop, there’s a good chance you’ll spot someone who’s seen it all — not just the evolution of our technology, but the growth of a culture grounded in teamwork, craftsmanship, pride. That person is Dick Ekhammar, our long-serving Production Manager, who has been part of Berg’s story for over 40 years.

A Legacy That Started with Family

Dick’s journey began in 1984, but his connection to Berg goes back even further. Inspired by his grandfather, who also worked at Berg for many years, Dick first set foot in the company as a 12-year-old during a one-week school internship. That early hands-on experience lit a spark — and by the time he finished school, he already knew exactly where he wanted to work.

“When I went out of school, I just searched for Berg. I wanted to work at Berg.”

From Operator to Leader

Dick started as a machine operator, starting from the basics and gradually mastering the craft. Over the years, he worked his way through various roles, eventually becoming a Production Manager. His technical skills evolved alongside Berg’s innovation, but what’s remained constant is his passion for the product and the process.

“What I love about Berg is the whole product chain — from design, to machining, to assembly and packing. We design it, we make it, we ship it. It’s a full-chain experience.”

Pride in Every Shipment

Few things make Dick prouder than seeing a finished product leave the factory, bound for a vessel somewhere across the world.

“I love when we deliver a product. When the truck arrives, we load it up and send it off. I know that equipment will serve a ship for many years. It makes me proud every time.”

A Culture Like No Other

Beyond the engineering and production, Dick speaks passionately about the culture at Berg — a workplace where everyone is equal, from managers to operators, and everybody helps each other.

“Everyone talks to each other. We sit in the same lunchroom, and we help one another. That’s what makes our team strong.”

A Global Touch, A Local Heart

As part of an international company, Dick often guides visitors from around the world through the workshop. For him, it’s more than just a tour — it’s a chance to showcase something he feels personally connected to.

“Often I go around with the customers and show them the machining, the assembly and the end products. I feel very proud when I walk around. It’s like my own products!”

Thank You, Dick

Dick Ekhammar represents the very best of what Berg Propulsion stands for: dedication, craftsmanship, and pride in the work we do. His story is a powerful reminder that when people grow with the company, the company grows with them.
